School Enterprise Policy (Draft)

The King Edward VI School Enterprise Policy (Draft)

Introduction

Enterprise is defined as the capability to handle uncertainty and respond positively to change, to create and implement new ideas and new ways of doing things, to make responsible risk/reward assessments and act upon them in one’s personal & working life.

Enterprise is about innovation, creativity, risk-management, having a ‘can-do’ attitude and the drive to make ideas happen.

“An enterprising school is one where all of the students are expected to take personal responsibility for their own actions in an area where they may be uncertain about the final outcomes. They are given autonomy to tackle relevant problems or issues that involve an element of risk as well as reward for their successful resolution”.
[John Allen, 2005].

Our School’s Definition of Enterprise

Seek out today’s problems, as these are tomorrow’s opportunities.
[Flight Lieutenant Ted Atkins]

Rationale

The King Edward VI School believes that all students should have the opportunity to develop enterprise & financial capability and a business & economic understanding. We believe it is essential to prepare our students for challenges of the 21st century & for the demands of adult life.

We want to enthuse and motivate our students about their futures, help them to learn about work, through work and for work so they have the skills and confidence needed to face the demands of today’s world.

Our Aims

  1. To provide all students with the opportunity to develop enterprise capabilities so they have the skills to turn their ideas and creativity into reality.
  2. To provide all students with the opportunity to develop financial capabilities so they have the skills to make responsible personal finance decisions.
  3. To provide all students with the opportunity to develop a business & economic understanding so they appreciate the role of businesses in our economy.
  4. To provide all students with the opportunity to learn skills required in the world of work through well coordinated business links with local employers.
  5. To provide students, staff and business partners the opportunity to assess the impact of enterprise learning & to ensure the robust monitoring of enterprise provision.
