Adaptation Challenge Celebration

On Thursday 15th July KEVI students (Richard Russell, Daniel Glass, Zian Akhtar, Alex Sikkink & Jack Gebhard) accompanied by Miss Najafi enjoyed a day at the Centre for Life in Newcastle, at an 'Adaptation Challenge Celebration' to celebrate our status as the first Lead Climate Change High School in Northumberland this year, along with a wide range of first, middle, primary and secondary schools with Lead Climate Change School Status from throughout the region.

The day was led by young people, to teach other young people and adults innovative ways of learning about Climate Change Education. Workshops were led by:

•       St Anne's Catholic Primary and Bill Quay Primary Schools (Gateshead)
•       Broadway East First School (Newcastle)
•       Bydales School (Redcar and Cleveland)
•       Conyers School (Stockton)
•       Gurney Pease Primary School (Darlington)
•       The Grove Primary School (Durham)
•       Richard Avenue Primary School (Sunderland)

The Adaptation Challenge is financed by Climate NE, and the Local Levy which is raised by the Northumbria Regional Flood Defence Committee via the Environment Agency. Next year KEVI will be participating in an adaptation challenge project working with other schools in the Morpeth Partnership linked to flooding.

As well as the workshops hosted by other schools, KEVI students enjoyed the current Dr. Who exhibition and other exhibits at the Centre for Life, as well as having a go on the motion ride giving an interactive and 'bumpy ride' of the planets!
