Year 9
Students will learn a variety of creative skills in drawing, painting and printing. This is a foundation course in creative skills so students are ready for success at GCSE if opted for in year 9.
Year 10 & 11 GCSE
This is an exciting course where students will learn new skills in photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, silk painting and batik. Students will produce a sketchbook of work and main pieces in response to the project set. The sketchbook enables students to cover all the assessment objectives and includes research on artists and art history, planning and experimentation of media, it should clearly tell the ‘journey of the project’.
The controlled test is a timed project of 6 weeks. In this period of time a sketchbook of work is produced and a main piece in a 2 day session in the art department. Students will take this in March of Year 11 and need to make a personal response to a choice of project titles set by the exam board.
Coursework 2 main projects = 60% of the final grade
Controlled test = 40% of the final grade
Year 12 AS & 13 A2
Students most make a personal response to a project set. In year 12 the focus is about experimentation with materials and producing creative outcomes. Students will learn more sophisticated skills in photography, drawing and painting. They will also have the opportunity to learn new skills in lino printing and etching.
In year 13 there is an emphasis on the quality and technical skill of the main pieces produced. A personal study of 1000 – 3000 words and practical work will be assessed as part of the major project. The controlled test is a 5 hour session in year 12 and 15 hours in year 13.
