Biology
Biology is a wonderfully rich and diverse subject, as you would expect of one which gives pupils detailed understanding of processes which allow living organisms to function, and how they interact with the world around them.
Biology is also at the forefront of leading developments and technologies, playing a crucial role in investigating questions which as yet have no answers.
The Biology department are committed to passing on our expertise and enthusiasm for this challenging scientific discipline. We have a strong reputation within the school and pupils widely enjoy the subject. As a result of their and our hard work, pupils are successful and have high aspirations in this well regarded and ultimately enriching subject.
The Biology department follow OCR GCSE Biology, as part of the 21st Century Science Suite. We then follow into sixth form with OCR A’ level Biology. Our staff are all dedicated and enthusiastic teachers who continue to challenge pupils using a variety of teaching methods to get the most out of all pupils.
In addition the department organise many enrichment sessions, master-classes, visits and a year 12 week long fieldtrip to Loch Lomond to get pupils involved in “real life Biology”. It is our aim that an interest in Biology is developed and supported so that it lasts well beyond the youngsters’ time at KEVI.
