Course outlines
At GCSE, students complete two projects which form the coursework element of the subject. In year 11, the exam is given out 4 weeks in advance of the date, and students work both in class and at home on the content. The exam culminates in full two day session. Examination is by moderation, following the AQA Art & Design Graphics option.
At A level we follow the OCR Art & Design Graphics course, and again the structure is similar to GCSE, with the course content being ICT-based. Three projects rotate: Up to the Country, Into the City and Down to the Sea.
The exam is given out in January of each year and has 8 weeks preparation leading to a 5 hour final session in Y12 and a 15 hour session in Y13. Assessment is by moderation.
All coursework at both levels is photography driven, with ‘resource gathering’ trips at the core of project starting points. Images are manipulated in Adobe Photoshop and then developed into outcomes in Corel Draw. All work is then presented in Powerpoint.
