Enrichment

The King Edward VI School provides a range of enrichment opportunities within all subject areas across all year groups to maximise, challenge and support the learning experience of students of all abilities.

Our enrichment opportunities are both integrated in to the mainstream curriculum, as well as in to a diverse range of extra-curricular and student-led activities programme, to ensure continuity and progression.

Our enrichment programme is at the heart of the Every Child Matters Agenda, “if a child is happy, they will achieve.” It also promotes challenge, exposure to new knowledge and ideas, the use of higher order thinking skills, developing students’ enquiry and problem-solving skills, to encourage independence, creativity and intellectual risk-taking.

The enrichment programme is designed to give students time to discuss and reflect upon their enrichment experiences. A key aspect is the provision of activities which connect students’ learning experience back to the classroom, which are motivating, help students to make connections, explore and to communicate. Our activities should allow students to develop every aspect of their knowledge, skills and talents, and allow students to respond creatively, with imagination and provide opportunities for potential to be released. The aim of the programme is also to increase variety and the pace of learning.

During our last Ofsted inspection in 2008, our enrichment programme was described as “outstanding”.
