The full governing body meets once each term and on other occasions if necessary. The overall responsibilities of the governing body are set out in a DfES document “A Guide to the Law – Voluntary Controlled Schools”. However, a great deal of its work is delegated to three main committees and a sub-committee following a review of its operation carried out in 2003. These committees are:

Role
The role of the Teaching, Learning and Performance Committee is to review and develop strategies for the whole student centred process of learning in the school. It takes responsibility for reporting on progress and performance, for reviewing policies falling within its remit and undertaking those activities delegated to it by the Governing Body set out below.Background
These terms of reference reflect the responsibilities of the Governing Body as set out in the Guide to Governors Guide and the Law as applicable to Voluntary Controlled schools. The Committee is responsible for advising the Governing Body on actions that body should take and to exercise the powers delegated to it as set out below.The Governing Body, as a whole, must undertake certain responsibilities. These are listed in the Governing Body Decision Planner e.g.:
- Approval of policies.
- (7,8) Appoint selection panels for appointments to the Central Management Team.
- (69) Changes in the instruments of government of the school.
- (70) Appoint (and remove) the chair and vice chair of the Governing Body.
- (71) Appoint and dismiss the clerk to the governors.
- (72) Hold a full governing body meeting at least three times a year.
- (73) Appoint or remove community governors.
- (74) Set up a register of governors’ business interests.
- (77) Consider whether or not to exercise delegation of functions to individuals or committees.
- (78) Regulate the Governing Body’s procedures (where not set out in law).
- (79,80,81) Consider forming a federation or joining an existing federation or consider requests from other schools to join the federation or to leave a federation
- (82,85) Decide to offer or cease to provide additional activities and what form these should take under extended School provisions.
- To review at least annually the establishment, terms of reference and membership of committees.

Membership and Quorum
The Committee shall consist of ten governors and the quorum must be six governors.The Inclusion Sub-Committee shall consist of six governors and the quorum must be four governors.

- (12) Discipline and attendance
- (13) Providing information
- Information to provider of statutory careers service
Membership and quorum

It takes responsibility for reporting on these processes, for reviewing policies falling within its remit and undertaking those activities delegated to it by the Governing Body set out below.Background

Role
The role of the Futures Committee is to co-ordinate major strategic initiatives relating to King Edward VI School. These include major school building or reorganisation projects, the School Development Plan and applications for a change in status e.g. Specialist College status. The Committee is responsible for reporting on these projects, for reviewing policies falling within its remit and undertaking those activities delegated to it by the Governing Body, set out below.Background
