Harker the hero but no happy ending

NUFCYear 11 student Nathan Harker has been putting his goalkeeping skills to good use.

Newcastle United played in the U17 section of the Gothia Cup – a youth tournament staged in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.

Although they didn’t get into the top 4, Nathan was commended for his goalkeeping – especially in a shoot-out against Swedish side Halmstads BK.

County Cricketer at KEVI

IMG_1123Two talented teenagers at Morpeth Cricket Club have been selected to play for Northumberland U15s.

Holly Jordan and Imogen Venters-Wood are the only girls from King Edward VI School that play cricket for Morpeth.

They are both highly motivated and they are involved in other sports. Imogen is a 1st Dan black belt in karate and is a member of the Ashington Shotokan Karate Club and Holly is a member of the Morpeth Harriers.

The Year 9 students are also both in the Morpeth Baden Powell Scout group and are currently undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

On May 4, they played in a Northumberland Cricket Board women’s T10 competition that took place on the Morpeth CC pitches at Longhirst Hall. It was well attended by teams from throughout Northumberland and Cumbria and it had the best of the Bank Holiday weather.

The aim of the competition was to introduce the sport to newcomers in a friendly and fairly informal way in relation to the ECB cricket promotion of the This Girl Can initiative.

A great achievement!

Basketball Champions

DSC07203Congratulations to the Year 9 basketball team who finished in 1st place in Northumberland County finals last week at Blyth Leisure Centre.

In some exciting games, KEVI defeated Ashington 16-15, Cramlington 18-12, Berwick 28-2 and Blyth 26-2.

County Champions!

DSC_0545On Tuesday 28 April the Year 10 footballers played in the Northumberland County Cup final.

Despite a bright start, the KEVI team found themselves one nil down at the break. First half chances were of a premium for both sides.

Into the second half and KEVI soon found themselves level; a smart finish from Harvey Colledge. One one and there looked to be only one winner!  Despite several efforts on goal however the scores somehow remained tied.  Both normal and extra time couldn’t find a winner.

To penalties…13 v 12 the final score! Well done boys on a fantastic season.
