World Challenge

Over the summer holidays, 32 students, 4 staff and 2 expedition leaders embarked on a month long adventure to Madagascar with World Challenge.

Students had spent the previous 2 years hosting a whole range of events to fund their once in a lifetime expedition.

The teams departed from Newcastle to make the 28 hour journey to the Madagascan Capital, Antananarivo. As they made their way down the country the challengers
experienced the unique culture and wildlife that Madagascar has famously become known for.

Students reach to the skies!

Main PictureA number of year 11 and year 12 students ventured to the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough at the weekend to fundraise for their expedition to Madagascar this summer.

Mr Bryant said, “It was a brilliant day; sunshine, blue skies, no wind, in fact perfect abseil conditions. But unfortunately I still couldn’t do it. My legs went to jelly and I was only walking up the stairs! So well done to all of the students who actually did it because it is honestly not an easy task.”

Students Excel at Outdoor Training Weekend

Hexham 2

Students and Staff attended the World Challenge Expedition Training Weekend at Hexham in preparation for their four week expedition to Madagascar in Summer 2015.

For the 31 students and four teachers it was a great opportunity for the team to continue to develop key skills.

The aims of the 2 day course are to develop their ability to work as a team, explore Expedition team roles, understand how to remain healthy on Expedition, prepare camp food successfully, general camp craft awareness and safety equipment familiarisation.

Hexham 1They undertook a number of interesting tasks, led by a World Challenge Group Leader, over the two days to gain knowledge in all of these areas. They were extremely keen and all found it a worthwhile weekend.

They were a credit to themselves and KEVI. The World Challenge Leaders stated that they were all responsive to information given, looked after each other, learned an awful lot and above all enjoyed themselves. Roll on Madagascar Summer 2015!
