Opening hours:Monday to Thursday - 8.30 am to 8:30 pmFriday - 8.30 am to 4.00 pm Full Level 2 CoursesIf you are aged 19 or over and do not hold a level 2 qualification, you can study your first full level 2 qualification (i.e. 5 GCSE’s) for free. You may also qualify for the Adult Learning Grant and get up to £30 cash a week. Please ask for more information if you think this applies to you.Qualification CoursesThe Adult Learning Service has a commitment to offering high quality courses that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Some qualifications are assessed by examination, others by a marker looking at a portfolio of work that you have prepared. The qualifications available are outlined clearly in the brochure. Please note that a £10 certification cost is included in the course fee for all North East Open College courses.When you enrol on a certificated course you will be expected to take the examination or produce a portfolio for assessment. You will be supported to achieve the relevant qualification. If you are concerned about working towards a qualification please speak to your tutor or community staff. Skills for LifeWe know how important it is to have good levels of skills in English and Maths for successful study, as well as being able to cope better at work and in daily life. Learner Support FundsWe know that learning can be expensive, so we offer a Learner Support Fund, which may be able to help you meet costs, such as tuition fees, travel, registered childcare, books and equipment and examination fees. If you need financial help, then speak to the community staff and they will be able to provide you with an application form. The Learner Support Fund is means tested and is a limited fund. You are therefore advised to apply as soon as possible after enrolment.Learning ResourcesAt our Adult Learning Centre we offer free facilities and resources which enable independent learners to study at a time to suit themselves. Please ring to check availability of rooms prior to visiting (tel: 01670 - 514021). Note: a small charge will be made for photocopying and printing.Disabled LearnersIf you have a disability and disclose your needs to us, we will make any reasonable adjustment to our building or course delivery to help you access the course and get the most out of it.
